Job Description
The VDC Engineer 1 will take direction from the VDC Project Lead or a more senior VDC Engineer to provide virtual construction support for current and new construction projects. It requires creating 3D model drawings utilizing Autodesk products such as AutoCAD and Revit from design documents that are used in both the preconstruction and construction phases of projects. These models must be coordinated with the other trades. These coordinated models are then used to produce installation and fabrication drawings. The VDC Engineer will need to effectively work with project managers, field supervision, and the fabrication facility. They are someone with a high attention to detail, can multitask and enjoy working as a team.
Required Education/ Experience
- High School Diploma or GED 5 Years of NJATC Apprenticeship or Equivalent
- 5 + years of electrical industry knowledge
- Preferred Electrical Engineering Degree or Construction Management Degree
- Computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) Autodesk Revit experience
- Modeling 3D content in Revit for electrical systems as directed by VDC Project Lead.
- Communicate issues and potential solutions to the VDC Project Lead.
- Maintain department VDC standards.
- Model and coordinate all electrical model elements as directed by the VDC Project Lead.
- Accurately enter all model system and parameter data.
- Make coordination changes to the model as directed by the VDC Project Lead.
- Create finished drawings for fabrication and installation as directed by the VDC Project Lead.
- Understand and follow project specifications and documents for all modeling and drawing activities.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the VDC Project Lead as needed.
- Create and control Revit views for efficient model population and coordination.
- Learn to create and control Revit view filters and view templates.
- Learn to use both Collaboration Pro and Navisworks for clash resolution.
- Know the National Electrical Code and how to apply it to all VDC efforts.
- Understand and follow all project specifications.
- All modeling content is done to ensure efficient installation.
