Description

Summary

The Chief Mechanical Estimator is responsible for ensuring the following: the bid is correct/accurate (covers all costs) according to the most up to date drawings provided; the bid contains reasonable profit margin as specified by the Group or Contract Manager; the estimating department is using the most up to date, cost effective, construction industry methods to estimate the work; and that the estimates are done in a timely and efficient manner.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

•Establishes a timetable to meet estimate and bid deadlines and ensures compliance with this timetable

•Oversees, manages and regularly reviews the performance of Estimators

•Keeps necessary records required from time to time by management

•Follows documented Cleveland policies and procedures

•Assists in developing uniform procedures and standards for the estimating process

•Assists others, as directed by supervisory personnel, in providing price and delivery information

•Processes purchase inquiries, tabulating and analyzing quotations as to price, terms, delivery, and general conformity with requirements of the inquiry and specifications

•Regularly reviews with the Group Manager/VP, the need for, and use of, temporary estimators

•Actively promotes and strives to ensure the success of Total Quality Management and ISO 9002 initiatives

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises Senior Estimator Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

 

•Education and/or Experience - Ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MUST have extensive experience in estimating industrial piping systems in the following areas but not limited to process, manufacturing, water treatment and food & beverage. Experience in estimating HVAC, structural and civil is also preferred.

•Language Skills-Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

•Reasoning Ability-Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

•Computer Skills-To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software and scheduling software.

•In this role, a person will be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, may be required to walk jobsites including up/down stairs
